PHILOSOPHY & GOALS

Rivers Edge Soccer Club is committed to achieving soccer excellence in Vermont through quality instruction and competition in a challenging, supportive environment.

Our philosophy will be to teach and train the technical side of the game through fun, repetitious drills and games as well as cover both individual and small group play topics. We will cover a few larger, or 11v11, topics and play several systems of play through the spring season as they are all relevant and provide great platforms to learn.

Technically we will spend a large portion of time on passing technique, receiving technique, serving/shoot/ball striking, turning, playing in the air, 1v1 defending and basic comfort/skill with the ball. Each session will focus on an area, that will then fit into the tactical portion of training later on in the session.

Each day will have a "Technical-Tactical" focus as well. Meaning putting some technique to use in either a game scenario or with decision making mixed in.

Our small group focus will be on methods and structure of play based on groups of 2's, 3's, 4's and 5's on the field of play. Defending in these groups, attacking in these groups, decision making Q's among the group and transition play.

Lastly, we will build our base system on a 1-4-3-3 platform as it is proven to promote diagonal passing, intelligent movement off the ball and enables teams/players to solve things on the field technically and with decision making rather than physically. We will play each player in a variety of positions as no player is a striker, or a central defender or a "10" at this stage of their career yet.
